Archivo Platform is pleased to announce the seminar and the exhibition REFRAMING THE ARCHIVE: Image, Time, Memory, from 17th to 30th of November, 2018, at the Centro Português da Fotografia and art gallery Fernando Santos, in Porto.
The seminar debates and reflects upon the role that archival images play in the representation and construction of historical memory. For two days, invited academics and artists will present different approaches to the theme, from theoretical questions to visual practices appropriating the archive as a critical and experimental tool to reflect on reality.
An exhibition will also be presented, in the context of the seminar. The exhibition contextualizes the work of two Portuguese artists, Manuel Botelho and Daniel Barroca, for whom memory is a central theme in their work. In their visual practices, the appropriation of images, documents or other objects, is regular and used as a way of exploring different visual temporalities and experiences.
Event organised by ARCHIVO PLATFORM, with the support of the European Centre for Documentary Research, University of South Wales.
