Mark Druden shares an insight into his latest work.
Since 2017, in collaboration with João Leal, I have been photographing European modernist architecture. The project began with the architecture of Álvaro Siza in Porto but has now expanded to encompass architecture by Aldo Rossi, Carlo Scarpa and Dimitris Pikionis. Engaging with leading European architectural writers and working with a publishing organisation connected with the Faculty of Architecture at University of Porto, we have now found an ideal published form for this work. At the same time we have been exploring and testing the most appropriate modes of exhibiting the photography. As well as introducing this project, I will also discuss some of my recent writings on photography after architecture, including a response to Simon Phipps’ forthcoming book on Brutalist architecture in Wales.
